TWO HAZARDOUS LOCATION GLAND APPLICATIONS STORIES
Case Study #1
Conax is selling its new Hazardous Location (HL) glands to a manufacturer’s representative who does some value added work by installing the HL gland on a valve actuator and then sells the complete assembly to valve manufacturers. Most of these assemblies are installed on offshore oil and gas rigs. Prior to using the HL gland, the customer was installing conduit fittings and filling them with epoxy (e.g Chico fittings). The customer needed a true pressure boundary which was easily and quickly installed and also had a recognized hazardous area approval. With the addition of the HL gland, our manufacturer’s rep now has a better product to offer.
Case Study #2
Conax sold Hazardous Location (HL) glands to an instrument manufacturer who was installing them on one of their I/P units which converts an electrical signal to a pneumatic signal. An approved pressure seal was required because the application was on a remote natural gas transmission site where gas was used instead of air, on the pneumatic side of the I/P. The manufacturer needed a gland that would prevent the gas from traveling through the conduit into the control room in the event of a component failure. The Conax HL gland provided a ideal solution.
