EXHAUST GAS THERMOCOUPLE REDESIGNED FOR EASE OF INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE

Customer Requirement:
The Brunot Island Power Plant, operated by Reliant Energy, has installed a Frame 7E gas turbine. The customer was dissatisfied with the exhaust gas thermocouple supplied by the OEM. The sensor was difficult to install, and service and maintenance were likewise difficult. The customer came to Conax seeking a better solution.

Conax Design Solution:
The Conax design featured a simplified termination and more rugged sheath design obtained by enlarging the sheath diameter and using a reduced tip to maintain sensor speed of response and performance. A conax sealing gland on each end allows the probe to be easily mounted into the radiation shied at the one end and into a termination box on the other end. Thermocouples of varying sheath lengths were provided. The customer was very happy with the Conax design and this part has now been added to Reliant's standard inventory.
